Take care of your eyes!

There is no denial in the fact that the pandemic imposed lockdown has amplified our screen time manifold. In addition, with the ever-increasing workload in the name of “work from home” with nowhere to go, we are left with no other option than to glue our eyes to the screen- be it a mobile, television set, laptop, or tablet.
Perhaps, nowadays each one’s day starts with opening eyes to a screen and the night ends with shutting eyes again at the screen of phone/laptop. If you are also one of them, then my dear friend, the day is not far when you will have to suffer from eye disorders, eye fatigue, and visual impairment.
Those harmful blue light emitted from your fancy gadgets hasten the process of loss of eyesight. Shocking? Not really, because we all have grown hearing our parents caution us about being blind if we use a lot of phones or watch T.V. for long hours.
However, the worthy news is, there is a lot to boost your eyesight and care for your precious sense organ. Here is a list of three easy eye exercises you should do anytime and every time to improve your eyesight.
Nonetheless, exams are marching rapidly, and students cannot give enough rest to their eyes. This makes it more suitable to write and share these tips with you.


Palming is an easy practice that gives instant relief from eyestrain and even boosts eyesight. For the exercise, all you have to do is, begin with generating heat in your palm by simply rubbing them together (gently, not that harsh). Then slowly place your heated -palms against your eyes for a few seconds. Apply very little pressure and let the absorb in. Repeat this exercise 5-7 times.


This is what comes to us involuntarily and naturally. However, did you know that blinking is also an exercise? This is different from the regular eye-blinks we do each moment. For blinking as an exercise, you should have a blank wall or view in front of you.
Begin by closing your eyes for a minimum of 2 seconds, then slowly open and blink rapidly for continuous 5 seconds. Repeat this exercise 5-7 times.

The 20-20-20 principle

This is one of the interesting and mindful practice to care for your precious eyes!
Make sure when working on the computer or while binge-watching your favorite Netflix/ prime series on the phone, after every 20 minutes you look at something that is 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. That does not mean that you look at the screen of a different gizmo!

Bonus Tip

Not just exercise and avoiding screen is crucial, but eating healthy is equally important to maintain good eye health. Yes, you read that right! Do not rub your eyes (it is a bad habit too!). Eating healthy food and nutraceuticals make a colossal difference in keeping up with good eyesight.
Therefore, make sure you intake an antioxidant-rich diet that is loaded with green leafy vegetables, egg yolks, bell peppers, citrus fruits, flaxseed, sweet potato, pumpkin, turmeric, and carrots. These colorful and vibrant yellow and green vegetables (that ironically you hate the most) are extremely helpful in preventing age-related macular degeneration that is the leading cause of blindness.
